Prof. Dora Akunyili, ex Minister of Information, has been bestowed the ’2013 Healthcare Foundation Leadership Award’ in the United States of America, the News Agency of Nigeria states.
The award was put together by the Hackensack University Health Network in New Jersey, in partnership with a US-based company with the Nigerian Healthcare Foundation, which happened at the 8th Annual Faces of Hope Banquet on Saturday.
The Chairman of Hackensack University Medical Centre, Dr. Jeffrey Boscamp, while presenting the award, applauded the former DG of the Nigerian National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control for her sector and commitment to sincerity, transparency and selfless work.
He stated that Dora’s immense assistance in the battle against fake Drugs in Nigeria and West African sub-region would certainly constantly be remembered, specifically her lofty leadership in the medical field.
“Akunyili has actually gotten more than 600 awards and awareness locally and worldwide,” Boscamp declared.
Akunyili claimed she takes the award as very special due to the fact that it came more than 4 years after she had left workplace as the Director General of NAFDAC.
“With this award, I am encouraged and motivated to work even harder not only in contributing to the fight against counterfeit medicine but also in the development of our dear country Nigeria.
“For me to be honoured here today proves that Nigerians, not only at home but also in the Diaspora, continue to appreciate my contribution in the fight against counterfeit medicine.”
